Junior Lifeguard Program try-outs next week

The C.L.E.A.R. Foundation, in collaboration with California State Parks, is preparing to host try-outs for its 2024 Junior Lifeguards Program. Scheduled for April 20 at 8:00 a.m., the event will take place at the Canyon Lake Lodge Pool, marking an important step towards enhancing water safety and promoting a healthy lifestyle among young individuals in the community.

This program, tailored for candidates aged 8 to 15 1/2 years, requires prospective participants to register before the try-outs, ensuring a structured and fair selection process. In line with the Foundation’s policy, the try-out fee will be refunded to those who do not pass, underscoring a commitment to accessibility and encouragement for all interested youth.

The selection criteria include a 100-yard swim, which must be completed in under three minutes, followed by a two-minute tread in water without assistance. Those who successfully meet these requirements will be eligible for the Junior Lifeguard Camp, set to run from June 17 to June 28, offering an enriching experience that combines physical training with life-saving skills and teamwork.

Furthermore, an orientation session for those who pass the tryouts is planned for 10:00 a.m. on the day of the try-outs, aimed at providing participants and their guardians with comprehensive insights into the camp’s activities, objectives, and what is expected from the junior lifeguards.
