City offering $1500 to winner of graduating student essay contest

The City of Canyon Lake has announced an exciting opportunity for high school seniors who are residents of the city to showcase their writing talents and compete for a $1,500 scholarship through an essay contest.

High school seniors residing in Canyon Lake are invited to participate in the 2024 Essay Contest for a chance to win a scholarship to support their educational endeavors. The deadline for submissions is April 18 at 5:00 p.m.

To be eligible for the contest, participants must submit an original and previously unpublished essay of 500-750 words, either in PDF or Word format. They can choose from two poignant topics: “How Does Youth Volunteering Make the Canyon Lake Community Stronger?” or “How Youth Can be Community Leaders?”

In addition to the essay, contestants are required to include their résumé, highlighting any job and volunteer experiences, as well as extracurricular activities. It’s an excellent opportunity for students to reflect on their roles within the community and express their insights on youth leadership and volunteerism.

The scholarship recipient will be honored at the May 8 City Council meeting, where the award will be presented.

Those interested in entering the contest are urged to send their essays and resumes to City Clerk, Sheryl Garcia, via email at SGarcia@canyonlakeca.gov.

For further inquiries, Sheryl is available at 951-244-2955. Participants can find more information on the city website, canyonlakeca.gov, or visit the city offices located in the Canyon Lake Town Center.

The city said it eagerly awaits the creative and thoughtful submissions from its talented youth, as this contest not only offers a substantial scholarship, but also engages young minds in civic issues, nurturing the next generation of community leaders.
