Canyon Lake Little League Opening Ceremonies a hit

The community’s excitement for the Canyon Lake Little League season was palpable Friday night, as the first Friday Night Lights game took place at 6:30 p.m. This event marked the beginning of the season, setting a vibrant tone for the upcoming games. The exciting occasion created an opportunity for the kids to get to play under the lights on the field.

The Canyon Lake Little League family and the broader community were invited to gather at the fields to support the Major Division players in a spirited match between the Major Dodgers and the Major Blue Jays. The atmosphere was electric as families from across the league came together to cheer on the teams, demonstrating strong community spirit and support for the young athletes.

In addition to the thrilling game, attendees enjoyed an array of culinary delights. The evening was made even more special with Taco Night, where tacos were available at a great price – three for $7 or one for $3. This culinary feature provided a wonderful complement to the night’s activities, allowing families to enjoy a tasty meal under the lights while rooting for their favorite teams. Snack bar food is available at most of the Little League games at Gault Field.

The event turned out to be a wonderful night at the fields, enhancing the sense of community and camaraderie among attendees. It was a fitting kickoff for the season, promising many more memorable moments and exciting games to come. The National Anthem was sung by Joseph Luna, 11, prior to the first games under the lights. The following morning the Canyon Lake Opening Ceremonies took place where 300 players from the various divisions took the field in full uniform and paraded past the massive gathering.

Despite drizzly weather, the festivities began with a Pancake Breakfast. The snack bar also offered an array of beverages including water, coffee, sodas, hot chocolate, energy drinks, and Gatorades for purchase.

In addition to the breakfast, a Silent Auction was held which offered a variety of baskets. All proceeds from the auction benefited the Frega Family, whose husband and father Eric Frega recently passed away after his cancer battle. Eric was an active member of the Canyon Lake Little League and an ardent supporter.

“The silent auction was a great success, contributing generous donations to the family,” president Jason Cleveland said. “There was a moment of silence for Eric as Eric’s American Cancer Fighter flag was raised on the field’s flag pole. The flag will remain on the pole for the entire season at Gault field in his honor. The league board decided to add Eric’s logo to all of the uniforms this year with a purple ribbon.”

The Opening Ceremonies began with player and coach entrances, followed by official events including a welcome speech by the President, the National Anthem sung by Justine Lenard and the first pitch. Afterward, the parade of players concluded the ceremonies.

Once the ceremonies ended, coaches and team representatives escorted the players back to their original meeting spots to be reunited with their parents. Games began shortly after the ceremonies, and families were encouraged to remain at the field to support the teams and enjoy additional snacks from the concession stand.

The event proved to be a delightful day for families and community members alike, reinforcing the sense of unity and sportsmanship within the area. Everyone was welcome to join in the celebrations and kick off the season with enthusiasm.
