Golden Gate checkpoint in Canyon Lake makes arrests

Concerned with increased alcohol-related accidents in Canyon Lake involving both vehicles and golf carts, the Sheriff deputies carried out a focused enforcement operation Friday night.

The operation, which took place from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on Golden Gate Drive near the Main Gate, targeted drivers suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or drugs, as well as general traffic safety.

The operation led to 33 traffic stops and the administration of 33 field sobriety tests. As a result, four drivers were arrested for DUI. Additionally, 23 other citations were issued, and four vehicles were impounded.

This enforcement action was a response to an increase in traffic collisions within the gates of Canyon Lake involving drivers under the influence, affecting both vehicles and golf carts.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reminds Canyon Lake residents that DUI and reckless driving laws are applicable on all public and private roadways in California, including those on the private streets of Canyon Lake.

The funding for this DUI enforcement operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This initiative aligns with the broader effort to enhance road safety and echoes the call to action, “Report Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1,” emphasizing the community’s role in ensuring safer roads for everyone.
