Techniques for creating Parade of Lights boat available Sunday

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club is preparing for its 41st Annual Parade of Lights celebration and is inviting Canyon Lake boat owners to begin planning their entries. The club will be holding a clinic tomorrow to teach those wishing to enter their boats into the parade about decorating ideas and techniques.

The parade will take place on Dec. 9 as boats will show off their holiday spirit with festive lights and colorful displays as they parade through the East Bay and around the main part of the lake.

This clinic is for all the first-time folks who would like to see what it takes to be part of such an amazing experience, or any previous participants who would like to add additional designs or decorations to their boats this year. The clinic will be hosted by Rob Mora, a veteran of the parade who will share his experience and answer any questions.

The clinic will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Mora home at 22309 Canyon Lake Dr South. Among the topics to be covered will be Themes, Supplies, Tools, Lights, Generators, Safety and whatever questions those attending may have.

If those who don’t have a boat would like to participate and be involved in this super-fun community event, they can come and join a decorating team and catch a ride on a boat the night of the parade.

Those with questions about the clinic should contact the club by email: robertcmora13@gmail.com or text: 951-970-8089.

The event will dazzle once again thousands of residents and their guests as the line of brightly-decorated boats traverses the lake behind the iconic fire and smoke belching Green Dragon boat.

Sponsorship is now open for the parade. Businesses and clubs interested in being a part of the parade are invited to contact Rob. There are three levels of sponsorship, Platinum, $750; Gold, $500; and Silver, $250.

Proceeds from the sponsorships will help provide funds for Canyon Lake Yacht Club college scholarships for some of Canyon Lake’s students.

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club has produced the Parade of Lights since its inception in 1982, marking its history as the oldest holiday boat parade in the Inland Empire.
