Sunday Maui event in two days

In an exuberant display of unity and cultural celebration, the community is invited to immerse themselves in the rich embrace of the Aloha spirit on Sunday for the annual Canyon Lake POA Maui Sunday celebration at the Canyon Lake Lodge and Sunset Beach.

This vivacious gathering is scheduled to take place starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Lodge, where attendees will be introduced to the enchanting phenomenon known as Maui Sunday—a time-honored communal tradition generously infused with the vibrant essence of Hawaiian culture.

At this free event, many fun activities are planned, including water slides, a DJ, entertainment, lawn games, and Baja Shrimp and Tiki Treats food vendors. The Lighthouse Restaurant will also offer a Hawaiian-themed menu from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room.

At 7:00 p.m., the community is invited down to Sunset Beach to watch a performance by the professional Polynesian Entertainment Group. The group’s performance includes hula dancers, Samoan drummers and fire dances. The group typically performs for about an hour. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs/blankets to enjoy the show.

However, beneath the surface of revelries and joyous festivities, a more profound purpose unfolds for this year’s Maui Sunday. As the island grapples with the challenges posed by the Maui wildfires, the event seeks to foster a united front against adversity. Together, the community has rallied to support those afflicted by Maui’s wildfire crisis, offering solace and assistance where it’s needed most.

To execute this noble mission, all efforts will converge Sunday in support of the Hawaii Community Foundation—a prominent and locally-anchored organization that has taken upon itself the vital role of aiding families adversely impacted by the calamitous fire.

Displaced households, stripped of their homes and possessions, find reprieve through the foundation’s benevolent services, ranging from provisions of sustenance and clothing to the sanctuary of shelter.

For those seeking to contribute beyond their presence at the event, a vital opportunity beckons.

Attendees are encouraged to visit the Maui Wildfire Relief Booth that will be stationed beneath the Lodge’s staircase. Here, one can glean insights into alternative avenues of involvement, providing them with an array of meaningful ways to engage with and contribute to the ongoing relief endeavors.

In the spirit of fostering unwavering solidarity and shared responsibility, the event also extends an invitation to the broader community, urging everyone to partake in this noble cause. A simple click serves as the gateway for those willing to extend a helping hand to Maui.
