In Memoriam: Mary Elizabeth Craton

Mary Elizabeth Craton; March 23, 1936 – May 11, 2023

Mary Elizabeth Craton passed away on May 11, 2023. Mary was born in New Jersey on March 23, 1936 and relocated to California to pursue her nursing career. Mary pursued the field of neuroscience, and later taught other nurses who were interested in that discipline. She was one of the two founding members of the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses.

Upon retirement, Mary and her husband, Bud, moved to Canyon Lake. During the time Mary lived in Canyon Lake she was very active in the community, serving as president of the Canyon Lake Women‘s Golf Club as well as serving on boards of the Canyon Lake Woman‘s Club, Canyon Lake Travel Club, Canyon Lake Lioness and the Canyon Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee.

Mary served on the Canyon Lake City Council from 2002 to 2014 and was appointed Mayor in 2007, 2009 and 2013. Mary moved to the Phoenix area in 2021 to be close to her family. She suffered a severe stroke in 2022 and never regained her health.

She is survived by her brother, Norman Metzger, nieces Karen Beebe and Susan Ullos, nephew Steve Rehnberg and many other nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Many of Mary‘s accomplishments during her time in Canyon Lake continue to benefit the city and its residents today.
