CL Community Theatre children’s auditions update

Canyon Lake Community Theater is holding open auditions for its upcoming summer youth production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid Junior at the Canyon Lake Country Club June 3.

After the COVID-19 challenges that shut down its performances, the theater group is bringing back its 20-year tradition of putting on a youth summer production.

The Little Mermaid is open to all aspiring performers from kindergarten through 8th Grade (heading into 9th Grade). This is a great opportunity for the youth who have a desire to learn the ropes of Musical Theater to learn from some of the best in the area.

Each child who auditions will receive a part in the show. Auditions will take place June 3 at 10:00 a.m. sharp at the Canyon Lake Country Club’s Magnolia Room. With callbacks proposed to start around 12:30 p.m., production organizers are asking those auditioning to be prepared to leave the day open for that possible opportunity.

Children should have a one-minute upbeat karaoke track prepared on their electronic device to sing with. A Disney tune or Little Mermaids song is preferred, but not required. Those auditioning should dress comfortably to provide ease of movement for the audition.

Upon completion of the auditions, there are important dates for participants to calendar. June 10 is the first parent meeting and read through. This meeting will provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions and learn how the program works. Tech week is scheduled from July 24 to July 27. The show dates will be July 28 and July 29 in the evenings.

The show will take place in the amphitheater at Indian Beach. Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursdays 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Not every child will be scheduled for each of the rehearsals. Those participating should  provide any schedule conflicts on the day of the auditions. The production fee is $200 per child with additional siblings per household being $100. Canyon Lake Community Theater is a non profit organization and these fees will be used to provide the children with beautiful sets and costumes.

The production will be directed by Autumn McGiveron, a first-time CLCT director, She, though, is no stranger to CLCT or musical theater. Autumn has been involved with the theater group for a year, and has performed in over 15 shows and directed three other productions in Washington state. Autumn is an educator and has worked with children of all ages since running a children‘s choir as her senior project in 2014.

The Canyon Lake Community Theater is looking for help with volunteers and sponsorships. Residents are encouraged to support the theater by placing an ad in the theater‘s program to help offset the high cost of the rights to the productions.

CLCT thanks the community for all of the support it has given throughout the years. For information about the auditions, volunteer opportunities or sponsorships contact Nicole Garvito at 951-821-0120.
