Canyon Lake Woman’s Club dishes out $40,000

Canyon Lake Woman’s Club brought in $40,000 in fundraising proceeds this year and announced at its last membership meeting that the funds would be split between high school graduate scholarships and other philanthropy recipients.

The Woman’s Club works throughout the year to fundraise to give back to the community through philanthropy and scholarships for female Canyon Lake high school graduates.

Woman‘s Club philanthropy committee member Adessa Walker announced that the funds for the past fiscal year reached $40,000.

The club is giving $20,000 towards the scholarship fund and $20,000 to its philanthropy recipients.

“The membership did an outstanding job with our philanthropy this year,” Woman’s Club President Shawna Bowen said. “I am beyond honored at the amount the Woman’s Club will be able to give out in philanthropic donations this year.”

Also a part of last week‘s club meeting was a presentation on bees by Linda Wolfe.

Women were invited to partake in local honey tastings and hear how Linda the Beekeeper rescues local beehives and re-homes them on her ranch. The women at the meeting said they were surprised to hear all that is involved in being a beekeeper and how intelligent bees are.

The Woman’s Club has its meetings at the Canyon Lake Senior Center while the Lodge is being renovated. New members are welcome to join the club. Next year‘s annual membership fee is $30.00.

More information about the club will be available at the club’s Fiesta Hopper booth tomorrow at Holiday Harbor from 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. Those who would like to join the club can do so at the booth.

In last week’s Friday Flyer article about the Woman’s Club, it was erroneously reported that Aprile McKinnon was the vice president of the club. The current vice president is Dona Zeigler, with Aprile taking the spot on the board next month.
