The Canyon Lake Community Gardeners Club met last week for one of the two miniature garden classes held by Kelly Lopez at Sierra Park. The classes had a focus on kids and gardening and 18 participants gathered to create fairy and dinosaur miniature gardens.
Kelly also distributed vegetable and flower seeds for the participants to take home to create plant startings.
“Helping the kids to learn to plant and start seedlings was really rewarding,” Kelly said. “My neighbor who participated in the workshop told me with excitement that her sunflower seeds had sprouted.”
“We are so happy we were able to attend,” Rocio Triolo said. “The gardening club made the workshop super fun for the kids and they were so patient and informative. My kids are so excited to see the seeds they planted start to grow and are looking forward to starting their own garden.”
The club will be partnering with the Canyon Lake Library on Earth Day, April 22. The event takes place at the library at 11:00 a.m. Children will be making seasonal pollinator flower bombs which will include flower seeds like zinnias and cosmos.
In honor of Earth Day, children are asked to bring recyclables with them. Reuse, Reduce and Recycle is the theme and extra help is always needed. Contact the library or Kelly to volunteer or participate by calling 951-609-6723.
Kelly said the Canyon Lake Community Gardeners Club plans to hold more workshops throughout the upcoming year which will include children and adults.
