Letter: Grateful for the Canyon Lake Fire Department

Editor, The Friday Flyer:

As a community member of Canyon Lake for the past 22 years and a former Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce representative, my standards were high regarding Canyon Lake residents and civil servants.

On Sept. 16, sometime in the early afternoon, I started to feel dizzy and passed out a few times throughout the day. Concerned about my health, I contacted 911 to be evaluated by EMS. After a brief two-minute response time, I was greeted by members of the Canyon Lake Fire Engine Company.

The crew immediately began asking questions and obtained my medical history while evaluating my vital signs. After multiple examinations and thorough questioning, the boys decided to transport me to Loma Linda Medical Center for continued evaluation and medical testing.

Firefighter/Paramedic Meyers was setting up my fluids and keeping me calm while Captain Gorter and Engineer Sanchez performed the alternate duties of the response team. Meyers noticed some of my Dodger paraphernalia and told me of his love for the Los Angeles Dodger organization. After we exchanged some hype about our 2022 “Boys in Blue,” the ambulance arrived. Meyers stayed with me in the ambulance monitoring my vitals while we continued the conversation about the Los Angeles Dodgers.

As our country seems to be divided and controversial, it is nice to see our Canyon Lake Fire Crew is still professional and caring. I would like to thank and recognize Canyon Lake Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse for his outstanding leadership. His crew on Friday, consisting of Captain Gorter, Engineer Sanchez and Firefighter/Paramedic Meyers, was second to none. Their ability to perform their emergency duties while maintaining a professional demeanor was impressive.

Thank you very much to the Canyon Lake “Boys in Blue” for your service!
