An evening at the Lodge

This past weekend, I had a friend from Arizona come to visit me. She only stayed one night on her way to visit her mom. She’s been to Canyon Lake many times, but this time was different. She said she felt the community closeness and she said she finally understood why I never want to leave Canyon Lake.

When Jen got to my house Friday evening, we jumped right on the golf cart and took a ride. We laughed and sang a little, and caught up on each other’s lives because it’s been awhile since the last time we saw each other. We drove the front half of the golf course, then we headed to Holiday Harbor and stopped and enjoyed seeing kids playing at the playground and we were off to the Lodge for some appetizers and a couple of drinks.

I’m not sure what Jen had to drink, but I enjoyed a couple of mud-slides and we shared the fried green-beans and pork pulled tacos. As we sat outside, overlooking our magnificent lake, this really nice couple came and sat at the table next to us. They said they had only been in the lake a few months. Gina and Mark. They just adopted a little fur-baby, Jacksey.

We really enjoyed hearing their stories of moving to the lake and how they plan to make Canyon Lake their forever home. I shared my same desire and after we were all done talking, my friend Jen looked out at the lake as the sun was setting and said, “I want to live here, too.”

As we wrapped up our little outing, we walked outside and headed to the golf cart. As we were walking, Jen made sure to point out the many couples coming into the Lodge. She made a comment that we Canyon Lakers are all so familiar with.

“Where else can you live where you are able to drive a golf cart to a nice restaurant/bar with views like this and never leave your community? You are so lucky to be able to live here.”

I put my arm around my friend, thanked her for coming along to the Lodge with me, for visiting and for reminding me of how lucky I am.

It was a perfect night, Canyon Lake style.
