36th Annual CL Kids Fishing Derby Sept. 17

One of Canyon Lake’s premier and longest-running events is on the calendar for next month and is looking for sponsors. The 36th Annual Canyon Lake Kids Fishing Derby will take place Sept. 17 at Holiday Harbor and the Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club is looking for those to help sponsor the event.

The derby is expecting 300 to 400 kids to participate in the activities. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in three different age groups. Kids ages 5-7, 8-11 and 12-15, plus one Big Fish in each species and Big Fish for a boy and a girl.

“The previous derbies have been a huge success, mostly due to our amazing sponsors,” the Bassmasters Club’s Chuck Moreno said. “The club is looking for another great success this year with children and parents. The turnout for the ceremonies are normally in the range of 500 to 600 people.”

The Bassmasters Club is looking for the support of sponsors again in the form of raffle prizes, fishing tackle, food items and/or monetary donations with which the club can purchase the items its needs to run the Fishing Derby.

Sponsors who make donations of $200.00 or more will be awarded a plaque in appreciation of their support and generosity, Chuck said.

The Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

On the morning of the event, sign ups will begin at 6:00 a.m. and the weigh in will be from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Hot dogs, potato chips and drinks will be served beginning at noon.
