K-9 Club hosts Annual Howl-O-Ween Contest

More than 50 Canyon Lake dogs showed up Sunday, dressed in their Halloween best, for the The Canyon Lake K-9 Club’s annual Howl-O-Ween Doggy Costume Contest at the dog park at Eastport Park.

All the pups were vying for awards for their creative costumes.

Judges Heather Barsby, Mayor Kasey Castillo, Elle Williams and Brenda Lees had their hands full with all the contestants running around dressed in their Halloween costumes.

There were two groups and four categories of winners in each group. The small and large dog groups each had categories for Scariest Costume, Best Costume, Most Original Costume and Best Couple.

In the large dog category, the winner for the Scariest Costume went to Chumley who was dressed as Hannibal Lector. Sadie won Best Costume dressed in her Hawaiian costume. Nugget won most Original Costume dressed as Colonel Sanders and Best Couple costume in the large dog category went to Zach and his pup Graci dressed as an old couple.

For the small dog category, the winner of the Scariest Costume went to little Kalie dressed as Chucky. The Best Costume went to Captain Jack and Luna dressed as a hot dog and ketchup/mustard. Most Original costume was won by Nova as a little bumble bee and Best Couple went to Demetri and his little pup Jake, dressed in Hawaiian attire.

According to club president Rita Robles, she was thrilled to see so many people come out for the event.

“It was amazing to see all the dogs dressed and enjoying the event,” she said. “It was so much bigger than the club expected and we were overwhelmed with excitement to see the Halloween spirit within the community and being shared by humans and their fur babies.”
