Family Matters help takes hours to set up

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club was established in February 2014 as a vision of Shawna Bowen who wanted to create a club that she could attend with her own kids. She was also hoping it would provide a way for her to meet people in the community.

As the club evolved, its goal was to provide low cost or free events for families to enjoy together.

Family Matters Club members came together for one of their largest events this past weekend when they hosted the Canyon Lake Halloween Carnival and Trunk or Treat at Holiday Harbor.

Because of the work of more than 20 volunteers, the carnival was a huge success.

The carnival required weeks of preparation. On the day of the event, club members and volunteers came together bright and early to set up the carnival. They gathered all the supplies from the club’s various storage units and brought them to Holiday Harbor.

The volunteers worked with rare breaks to set up and be ready for all the expected hundreds and hundreds of costume-clad kids and their families.

“Family Matters would like to thank everyone in the community for attending the event,” Shawna said. “We are grateful for all the help before, during and after the carnival and trunk or treat.”
