Top FMC volunteers can earn scholarships

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club will be giving away $2,500 in scholarships based upon volunteer hours served for the club.

These scholarships can be earned by anyone of any age and are perfect for those teens needing to get their mandatory high school volunteer hours to graduate.

Hours can begin to be earned by volunteering tomorrow at the Family Matters Carnival, which will be a fun and easy way to earn some hours all while giving back to the community.

As a non-profit organization, the club can sign off for the high school volunteer hours students need when they help with such events as the Carnival.

The club will keep track of the volunteer hours live on its FaceBook page until June 1, when the total hours will be tallied up and the recipients determined. Volunteers will be able to see their ranking at all times by viewing the live tally.

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club is a registered Presidential Service Award provider.

There will be an award ceremony along with a dinner in mid-June to honor the scholarship and Presidential Service Award winners.

An Elinor Martin Volunteer Scholarship will be given away in the amount of $1,000 to the student with the most hours, along with an Ed Strong Volunteer Scholarship in the amount of $500 for the person with the next greatest amount of hours. There will also be 10 additional $100 scholarships given to the next 10 students with the most hours.

The scholarships are open to all Canyon Lake residents, regardless of age, gender or school grades.

The club encourages everyone to volunteer at as many events as possible.

To sign up to volunteer, contact Family Matters at info@familymattersclub.com or call 714-394-4885. Volunteers can also sign up at signup.com/go/waNpWMu.
