Canyon Lake schools top in district

Tuscany Hills Elementary, one of two elementary schools where Canyon Lake children attend, and Canyon Lake Middle School were ranked the best elementary and middle school in the Lake Elsinore Unified School District by U.S. News and World Report.

Canyon Lake’s other elementary school, Cottonwood Canyon Elementary, is the sixth ranked school in the district in the rankings released this month by the national magazine.

There are 15 elementary schools and seven middle schools in the Lake Elsinore Unified School District.

To determine the rankings, U.S. News used data from the U.S. Department of Education to analyze two areas at each school: math and reading proficiency (how well students perform on state assessments) and math and reading performance (how well they perform compared with expectations).

Canyon Lake Middle School results had 35% of students scoring at or above the proficient level for math and 55% scoring at or above that level for reading. The school’s minority student enrollment is 59%.

The student population at Canyon Lake Middle School is made up of 51% female students and 49% male students. The school enrolls 48% economically disadvantaged students.

Of the 2,316 ranked middle schools in California, Canyon Lake Middle School is ranked 1,154th. The school has 1,049 students in grades 6-8.

Tuscany Hills Elementary results had 63% of students scoring at or above the proficient level for math, and 61% scoring at or above that level for reading. The school’s minority student enrollment is 42%.

The student population is made up of 50% female students and 50% male students. The school enrolls 44% economically disadvantaged students.

Cottonwood Canyon Elementary results had 45% of students scoring at or above the proficient level for math, and 52% scoring at or above that level for reading. The school’s minority student enrollment is 48%.
