Canyon Lake’s Gabriella Ramos named to Biola’s Dean’s List

Gabriella Ramos of Canyon Lake, majoring in Business Administration, was among approximately 1,700 students who were named to the Biola University Dean’s List for spring 2021.

Biola students are placed on the dean’s list to honor those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credits and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.2.

“Inclusion in Biola University’s Dean’s List is reserved for students who demonstrate exceptional performance in their academic studies,” Tamara Anderson, Associate Provost of Academic Effectiveness and Administration, said. “This honor signifies hard work, engagement, and investment in scholarship. These attributes are the building blocks of continued success, not only in the classroom, but in the workplace and in the student’s personal lives. We celebrate these students and their achievement, looking forward to their future accomplishments.”

Biola University is a nationally-ranked Christian university in La Mirada, Calif.

Everyone can participate in sharing Boo Baskets with neighbors, friends

Some Canyon Lake residents have already been Boo’d. Now it’s time for them to go Boo somebody else.

The Boo phenomenon began last year when Canyon Lake resident Shannon Bernier came home from walking her dogs one day to find a basket filled with Halloween goodies on her porch and a cute note that read:

“The air is cool, the season is fall, soon Halloween will come to all. Ghosts and Goblins, Spooks galore… Tricky Witches at your door. Friends are after things to do. In fact, a neighbor brought this “BOO” to you. The excitement comes when friends like you copy this note and make it two. We’ll all have smiles upon our faces. No one will know who Boo’d who. Just a few short days to work your spell. Keep it secret. Hide it well. Join in the fun, the season is here.”

It’s easy to participate, Shannon said.

“Just tape a ‘We’ve Been Boo’d’ sign to your front door and then fill two Boo Baskets/Gift Bags with your favorite treats, decorations, food, etc. (under $12.00),” Shannon said. “Make two copies of the ‘You’ve Been Boo’d’ sign and two copies of the instructions and place one of each in the baskets. Secretly place your two Boo Baskets at homes that have not yet been boo’d, and watch the fun and smiles continue.”

Women’s Golf Club to hold ‘Trees for Troops’ event to benefit the military

Christmas trees for members of the military will be provided from the proceeds of a Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club tournament to be held next month.

The club is also looking for donations outside of the tournament to go toward the purchase of these trees. The Canyon Lake Golf Course is currently closed for overseeding until Sunday. On Monday, a box in the Pro Shop will be set up to accept donation checks (made out to “Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club”).

“Trees for Troops” is a national organization that provides Christmas trees to the military and will receive the funds raised by the tournament.

The golf club is encouraging members of the various Canyon Lake golf clubs to participate in the charitable tournament that will take place on Nov. 20. The tournament will take place at the Canyon Lake Golf Course and will have a Jack ‘n Jill or Jill ‘n Jill format.

A sign up sheet will be available at the Canyon Lake Pro Shop when the golf course reopens after the reseeding closure. Participants must have a handicap to play in the tournament.
