Library Music Time now a weekly feature

Miss Vikky uses her really, really big song book to lead the group in song at the Canyon Lake Library Music Time this week.

Miss Vikky has been reading to Canyon Lake’s children for quite some time. Now, the Story Time leader has added a little music to the Friday morning reading hour at the Canyon Lake Library.

Story time with a musical twist for smaller children includes singing, dancing and acting out classic fairy tales with Miss Vikky.

The library welcomed Miss Vikky and four little ones to some singing and story time on Friday. Jack and the Beanstalk was acted out by Miss Vikky. The children listened to the story, then sang songs like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They even took to the dance floor to complete the hour.

Each child took home two coloring pages that were themed to Jack and the Beanstalk.

Malin Hilton, mom of 22-month-old Zachary Hilton, said she enjoys bringing her son to story time because it allows him time to socialize with other children and it’s a great way to get him ready for school.

Miss Vikky is a retired school teacher and is still involved in performing at renaissance fairs. She said she loves kids, and now that she’s retired, finds volunteering at the library a great way for her to still be able to interact with little ones while teaching them.

She said she was so impressed with how well the children behaved, especially since they were all so young.

Story time with a musical twist is set for Fridays at 10:30 a.m. and is ideal for children ages 3 to 9.
