A rare treat is in store tomorrow (Saturday) morning for Canyon Lakers who enjoy athletes performing at historic bests. The Canyon Lake Jump Lagoon will host both National and World Class Waterski Jump and Trick Ski competitors vying for new records in the sport.
Jumpers will go off the ramp and hit up to the 220-feet range, and trick skiers will likely perform up to 6,000 points and flip 360 degrees as many as five times in a single run.
This is the first Record Capability Tournament ever held in Canyon Lake. It is significant as big scores in this type of event may get a skier’s name on the International Ranking List and posted on the National Ranking List, which helps to qualify skiers for international tournaments, Canyon Lake Ski Club’s Debbie Sacks said.
In the sport of Jump Skiing, the World Record is up to 254 feet. One of those jumping tomorrow morning will be Canyon Lake’s Bojan Schipner, who jumps in the 220-foot range. His European record is 236 feet.
Trick Skiing World Records are up to the 12,000-point range. Canyon Lake has several skiers performing at 5,500-point range, including Taylor Horton, Debbie said.
The event starts with Trick Skiing at 7:30 a.m. and Jumping at approximately 10:00 a.m.
The public is welcome to come to the jump lagoon area and set up beach chairs. There is no charge.
