Woman shot after allegedly stabbing mother

A family dispute turned violent last week when a woman was stabbed with a knife by her daughter and the attacker was shot by her father in an attempt to stop the attack. Both the mother and daughter were taken to a local hospital and were expected to survive, Sgt. Lionel Murphy, a sheriff’s spokesman, said.

The Canyon Lake attack took place on March 10 at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Pheasant Drive. No arrests were announced, nor was the motive for the initial attack reported.

Deputies responded to the home after a report of a shooting. Deputies learned that one person had been stabbed, and that someone shot the stabber to end the attack, Murphy said.

“This incident is still under investigation with no further information available at this time,” Murphy said.

POA Lodge pool opens; COVID-19 rules still in place

With the opening of the Canyon Lake pool at the Lodge on Monday, spring hours and schedules are in place. Rules implemented for safe participation during COVID-19 are also still in place.

Exercise and laps swim daily hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Open swim daily hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Swim sessions are not available due to the virus restrictions.

Swimmers are required to follow the COVID-19 rules to help prevent the spread the virus. These rules include wearing face coverings when interacting with pool staff or others outside of the household, practicing social distancing and avoiding coming to the pool when sick.

Parking Rule Changes

Canyon Lake POA parking rules were passed last week that relaxed the requirements for overnight parking of trailers and provided for the safe parking of RVs while being loaded and unloaded, especially those with pop-outs.

Both sets of changes were developed at the request of members made earlier in the year and refined during the subsequent deliberations by the board. They will allow more time for members to have their RVs near their homes for loading and unloading and improve the safety of Canyon Lake streets, especially at night, the board said.
