Lucky ducks outmaneuver 1,100 others for the win

Over 1,100 plastic duckies were tossed into the Canyon Lake swimming pool at the Lodge Saturday. After a lot of pushing and shoving, those ducks that crossed the finish line at the other end of the pool took home the cash for their adopted owners.

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club held its inaugural Lucky Duck Derby as a fundraiser for the club. The little ducks were each adopted for a fee and after the race concluded some happy ducks and their owners won cash and prizes.

Finishing is first place was Nancy Duran’s Duck #336. She won a cash prize of $100.00. Those that followed were 2nd Place, $75 – Cathy Michener, Duck #23; 3rd Place, $50 – Karina Vanhoff, Duck #617; 4th Place, $25 – Jessica Redlin, Duck #99; 5th Place, $25 – Cindy Cameron, Duck #1094 and Bonus Prize, $100 – Carol Basse Sujishi, Duck #1043.

Winners of Rubber Duck Pool Floats by GOFLOAT were Pamela Jensen with Duck #371, Barbara Duncan with Duck #845, Mark Weaver with Duck #448, Bonnie Dyck Wade with Duck #820 and Janice Hogan with Duck #973.

Winners of Spring Wine and Chocolate baskets by MalibuGifts were Erin Elliott with Duck #882, Linda Shurtleff with Duck #1137 and Frances La Spina Tibbet with Duck #750.

Winner of a gift card to Dream Dinners was Renee Griffith with Duck #637.

Winners of a round of golf for two at Emerald Golf Course were Brian Wood with Duck #735 and Frances La Spina Tibbet with Duck #755.

Winners of $20 Urban gift certificates were Vicki Young with Duck #823, Margie McCloskey with Duck #561, Merri Garmon with Duck #116, Anthony Ganci with Duck #365 and Diann Prince Oltman with Duck #76.

The Grand Marshall of the race was Sandi Stawasz Geer of Farmers Insurance.

The fundraiser’s proceeds will go towards a special Easter event for Canyon Lake’s children next month. The club is planning on repeating and expanding the successful Lucky Duck Derby next year.
