City giving $1,500 college scholarship to essay winner

The City of Canyon Lake will be hosting an essay contest for all Canyon Lake high school seniors. The author of the best essay will be awarded a $1,500 scholarship.

The contest will involve participants submitting their résumés and writing a 500-to-750-word essay on a unique challenge faced by local governments as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Explain what you think your local government did well in responding to this challenge and what could have been done differently,” the city said. “Lastly, what lessons can be taken from this experience, and how can local governments better respond to similar emergencies in the future?”

Essays must be original and unpublished and need to be converted into the file formats of Microsoft Word or PDF.
