9ers Club holds Valentine Tournament

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club’s annual Valentine Tournament was full of all kinds of sweetness, including a game called “Heart, Cupid, Candy and Roses.” The tournament, held last week at the Canyon Lake Golf Course, drew 48 golfers with each team member being given one of the symbols.

That symbol remained that player’s symbol for the duration of the game. After each hole played, one of the four symbols would be on the next tee which would indicate which golfer’s score would be used for the hole just played.

“A lot of fun was had by everybody,” the club’s Mavis Schutz said. “Seven teams were awarded prizes as well as two closest to the hole prizes.”

At the conclusion of the event was the announcement of the club’s 2021 Sweetheart Couple, Roger and Linda Kielty.

“They were selected for many reasons, especially for their commitment to our 9ers Club as well as the Men’s Golf Club,” Mavis said. “They have given tireless hours in many areas of our community. In addition to all of this, Linda and Roger have been wonderful parents to four successful children (including our own Bobby Kielty) and many wonderful grandchildren! They have been wonderful and giving friends to all who know them. The Canyon Lake 9er’s Golf Club congratulates Linda and Roger.”

Both serve on the Board of Directors with Linda serving as President for three years. Linda gives her time to The Disaster Preparedness Committee and Roger to the Tuesday Work Group.

The seven team members that participated in the tournament and their order of finish are:

1st Place: Carol Paulis, Betty Henry, Carla Cords, Kathy Voss.

2nd Place: Ken Stark, Helen Sullivan, Mike Buckley, Dan Buckley.

3rd Place: Randy Schutz, Mavis Schutz, Becky Bowie, Jerry Paterson.

4th Place: Rich Dawson, Sandy Dawson, Kathy Sanchez, Bob Sanchez.

5th Place: Greg Trinkaus, Beth Trinkaus, Sue Muscarella, Russ Muscarella.

6th Place: Joe Washle, Dorothy Washle, Teresa Roberson, Don Roberson.

7th Place: Elaine Grady, Barbara Spraul, Tess Welch, Kay Arth.

Kathy Voss won the Closest to the Pin Award for the women and Dan Buckley won for the men.

Thanks was given to Amanda (Country Club Manager) and Chef Alex for all their hard work to provide box lunches to allow the participants to eat their lunches while social distancing in their golf carts on the driving range.
