Ninth Canyon Laker dies of COVID-19

Canyon Lake’s ninth citizen has died of COVID-19 complications. The county reported on Tuesday the white male in the age range of 40-64 had died. With the death, the city, which had been one of the least infected cities in the county with the fewest deaths, has been hovering toward the bottom of the top 10 list.

The City of Canyon Lake as of The Friday Flyer press deadline Thursday morning, has had 753 individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, ranking the city 8th lowest for per capita infections in the county. It is ranked 8th for per capita deaths.

The county is exploding with COVID-19 infections and deaths. Intensive care open beds are at zero, with hospitals adapting with makeshift accommodations.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 vaccinations have begun amongst the general population for those age 65 and above. The vaccinations are still in short supply, but are trickling out to this next level of citizenry.

The county has offered up its recommendations for what local residents can do to help slow the pandemic. It is asking its residents to protect yourself, family, friends and your community by following these prevention measures:

  • If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches), call your healthcare provider.
  • If you believe you have been exposed, get tested. Free and confidential testing is available statewide.
  • Stay home except for essential activities and follow state and local public health guidance.
  • Keep interactions to just people who live in your household.
  • Wear a cloth face mask when out in public.
  • Avoid non-essential travel and stay close to home. Self-quarantine for 10 days after arrival if you leave the state.
  • Regularly wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick and stay home from work, school and other people if you feel ill.
  • Add your phone to the fight by signing up for COVID-19 exposure notifications from CA Notify.
  • Answer the call or text if a contact tracer from the CA COVID Team or your local health department tries to connect with you.
