Kasey Castillo was unanimously selected as the City of Canyon Lake’s new mayor at a city council meeting Monday where the council was reorganized after swearing in the three who won seats at the November 3 election.
Jeremy Smith, the other councilmember who was not up for reelection, was chosen by the council unanimously to serve as mayor pro tem.
During the previous term, Jordan Ehrenkranz served as mayor and Kasey served as mayor pro tem.
Jordan, Larry Greene and Dale Welty won the three spots on the council at the election and were sworn in Monday night to their new four-year terms.
“That’s quite an honor,” Kasey said after the council chose her as the new mayor. “Thank you for the opportunity. Thank you for your trust. I’m motivated for 2021. Challenge accepted. Let’s go! I’m excited!”
Jeremy was equally eager to get on with his new assignment.
“I’m excited,” he said. “We have a lot of work to do. Let’s get to work. Let’s make it happen.”
With the city election results certified, the three new councilmembers were sworn in. The final results had Dale garnering 3,321 votes, Jordan 3,304 votes and Larry 3,023 votes.
Outgoing city councilmember Randy Bonner, who chose not to seek reelection, was honored at his final city council meeting by leaders from all surrounding cities, the state senate and county as well as several other political organizations.
Randy walked away from his seat at the council table with a stack of plaques and certificates awarded him at the meeting, including a faux City of Canyon Lake faux street sign for “Randy Bonner Way.”
