The Canyon Lake Canine Club, which was founded in 2014, has grown into a large group of dog enthusiasts in its five years of existence. The club was originally formed to connect Canyon Laker dog owners with each other, but now finds itself also as a significant advocate for improvements to the Canyon Lake Dog Park (located at the East Gate park).
“We have an average of 40 or more who use our dog park daily,” Club President Rita Robles said. “We have formed great friendships thanks to our dogs. This is where we come to unwind and share laughs as well as some tears.”
The club has been working with the Canyon Lake POA over the years to fix problems at the park, including issues with the irrigation system, lack of shade and seating. Despite having to overcome some obstacles, the dog park was approved for funding by the POA and several improvements have been made.
In addition to spending time with each other and their dogs at the Dog Park, the members of the Canyon Lake Canine Club connect with each other online. Their Facebook group is called Canyon Lake K9 Club and is currently up to 377 members.
The Facebook platform has served as a place for pet owners to share information relating to their dogs’ health and wellbeing, as well as posting photos and other pet-related items.
“I never imagined to have a group that supports one another the way we do,” Rita said.
