Lake Clean Up, Cocktail Cruise hosted by Yacht Club

The entire shoreline of Canyon Lake and its coves will be tidied up tomorrow (Saturday) by Canyon Lake boaters as part of the annual Lake Clean Up hosted by The Canyon Lake Yacht Club.

The club invites all those with currently-registered boats to help with the clean up as well as an evening Cocktail Cruise later that evening.

To participate in either or both of the two events does not require a yacht club membership. The Lake Clean Up begins at 9:00 a.m. when participants will meet at Diamond Point Park to board boats with nets and bags. Boaters and volunteers will be checking every cove and every foot of the shoreline for trash. After gathering the trash, volunteers will return their trash bags for proper disposal.

“Lake Clean Up provides a valuable service to the entire community and it’s a fun and rewarding activity,” Event Chairman Pete Delia said. “Plus, participants get to meet and hang out with other members. It’s also an opportunity for non-members to serve alongside members of the club in helping keep our lake clean and beautiful.”

To participate, registered boat owners can contact Pete by email at suzpet@msn.com or by phone at (951) 566-7035.

After a morning of hard work, the club will then host its second event of the day. This one, though, will be full of relaxation, cruising, drink and food. At 6:00 p.m., participants will be greeted by Commodore Dave Dain on the Lodge Courtesy Deck.

After departure, boats will follow the lead Yacht Club boat on a slow cruise around the main lake before tying up at Catfish Cove. At the park there, fun festivities of conversation, swimming, food and libations will occur.

“Our cocktail cruises are especially popular in this hot weather,” Dave said. “Temperatures cool down a bit in the evening, but the water is nice and warm and it’s a really awesome time together with new and old friends.”

Participants can bring their own appetizers and beverages, but unlike previous years, food and beverage will not be shared between boats, Dave said. There is limited seating on the boats for interested walk-ons and the club encourages all participants to bring a mask and follow public health guidelines during the cruise.

Due to the limited seating for walk-ons, those wishing to board others’ boats should contact the Yacht Club at info@canyonlakeyachtclub.com to secure room on one of the boats.
