Start off the year with an act of daredevilry

The Triathlon and Fitness Club welcomes those brrr-ave enough to swim in the cold lake to participate in its 2nd annual Polar Swim on Jan. 1 at 12 p.m. at Sunset Beach. Participants are welcome to take a quick dip or swim to the lighthouse and back. Wetsuits are optional.

Reservations are not required, simply show up and look for the club’s yellow and blue tent on the beach. For more information about the Polar Swim, call 310-480-3401.

The Triathlon and Fitness Club promotes healthy lifestyles through swimming, cycling, running and other cross-training activities. In addition to triathlon events and group practices, the club hosts the community 5K/10K Fun Run, Tour de Canyon Lake bike ride and the Paddle and Pedal Regatta.

The club is accepting membership applications for the 2019 season. Annual dues are $30 for individuals and $40 per family. Membership is not required to participate in events hosted for the community, such as the Polar Swim.
