Take a cold plunge on Polar Bear Day

The Wakeboard Club, Ski Club and ShowCal Skiers invite Canyon Lakers of all ages to grab a wakeboard, waterski, show ski, wakeskate, swivel ski, jumper, hydrofoil or trick skis and head over to Sunset Beach on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. for the annual Polar Bear Day. Boats and crews will be provided to those who dare to participate.

Participants will “feel the thrill of the chill” as they brave the chilly water temperatures wearing only swimsuits and ski vests during their ride.

The sponsoring clubs will treat participants to a warm fire, barbeque and hot drinks after their rides.

The cost is $20 and includes an official Polar Bear Day T-shirt. Grab a partner and take the plunge together for a discounted price of $35. Pre-registration is not required.

Residents who choose not to participate are encouraged to cheer on the “polar bears” from Sunset Beach, lakefront homes and decks.
