Ribbon Cutting held for new pickleball courts

More than 100 residents attended the POA’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new pickleball courts on Tuesday evening. Former POA President Bruce Yarbrough was given the honor of cutting the ribbon.

Mayor Randy Bonner, Councilman Larry Greene and POA Board of Directors Mike Harris, Phil Hawgood, Tom Nathan, Paul Queen and Dale Welty were in attendance.

Light refreshments were served and gift cards were raffled off. Scott Ellis, Nancy Hoke, Paul Hawker and Jason Lebring won the gift cards.

Pickleball Club President Jeannette Williams and Vice President Steve Libring said they were pleased with the turnout.

Pickleball lessons were given after the ceremony for those interested in learning more about the sport.

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. The game is played with a paddle and a baseball size wiffleball. Generally, play is doubles.

The Pickleball Club’s Social Play days are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 8 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 10 p.m.; open play days are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 10 a.m. with one court being reserved for beginners and clinics.
