Community invited to Quarter Mania fun-draiser

The Family Matters Club invites the community to participate in its Quarter Mania “fun-draiser” on Sunday, Nov. 5, from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge.

Quarter Mania is a cross between an auction an a raffle where guests “bid” quarters to win prizes. At check-in, guests are issued a numbered paddle that is used for individual bidding. A numbered chip that matches the number on the paddle is placed in the chip bucket.

Gift cards to local restaurants, Disneyland tickets and Aquarium of the Pacific tickets are a few of the items up for bid. The event will also feature a silent auction, raffle table and door prize. Before the bidding begins and during intermission between the two rounds, there will be time for shopping in the vendor area.

Pre-paid general admission tickets are $20; $25 at the door. General admission tickets include admission, one bidder paddle, $5 snack voucher, goody bag and event program. General admission ticket holders will need to bring quarters to bid on items.

VIP tickets are $40; $45 at the door. VIP tickets include admission, one bidder paddle that includes all bidding rounds (no need to bring extra quarters for bids), unlimited trips to the snack bar, VIP goody bag and event program.

Ticket holders may purchase up to three extra bidder paddles for $5 each. Extra paddles increase the chances of winning.

How does a Quarter Mania work?

The auctioneer has numbered chips that correspond with the numbers on the bidder paddles issued at check-in. The auctioneer begins by holding up the item to be bid on. The item is described and the bid amount announced. Items in round one will cost the bidder three quarters for each item they wish to bid on. These items have a retail value of $50 or more. Items in round two will cost the bigger two quarters for each item they wish to bid on. Items in round two have an estimate retail value of $30 or more.

Bidders who wish to bid on the item put their quarters in the collection jar in the center of the table and then hold up their paddle. VIP bidders do not have put quarters in the collection jar. VIP paddles are “all in” paddles, which allows the bidder to bid on every item without quarters.

The auctioneer will pull a random numbered chip out of the chip bucket. The guest whose paddle number matches the number on the chip pulled from the chip bucket wins the item. All numbered chips are returned to the chip bucket for the next bid.

Bidders can increase their chance of winning by purchasing an additional paddle for $5 (limit three per person). If more than one paddle is used per round, guests must deposit quarters for each paddle used. Ticket holders who purchased extra paddles must deposit quarters for each paddle used.
