Yacht Club honors Wilburs as Deck Hands of the Month

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club named Ron and Fay Wilbur as its March Deck Hands of the Month. The couple, known for their enthusiasm and dedication to boating, were recognized for their active participation and leadership within the club.

Throughout March, Ron and Fay demonstrated their passion for boating by attending the “How to Get Your Boat Ready for the Season” clinic, where they shared valuable tips with fellow members. They also braved chilly weather to participate in the first club cruise of the season, along with their dog, Ginger, setting an example of commitment and camaraderie.

The Wilburs’ contribution to the club extends beyond just participation. They consistently help other members enjoy life on the lake, embodying the spirit of community and support that the CLYC cherishes.

To celebrate their contributions, the board members treated Ron and Fay to dinner and drinks at the Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar, accompanied by Commodore Rob Mora, Vice Commodore Dave Carter, Purser Lynette Rodriguez, and Membership Chair Cindy Silk Gonzalez.

During the dinner, the board introduced a new segment called “The Sailor Six,” where they asked the couple a series of questions to further acquaint them with the club members.

The Wilburs shared that they have been residents and members of the Yacht Club for seven years, enjoy moonlight cruises, and look forward to the annual Parade of Lights—their favorite YC event.

Their boat, named “So Far So Good,” reflects their optimistic approach to both boating and life at Canyon Lake. When asked where they would choose to be if stranded on an island, Ron and Fay answered without hesitation: Kauai.

As the club looks forward to naming the April Member of the Month, Commodore Rob Mora encouraged all members to visit the CLYC website regularly for updates on club activities and to find out how they can also be recognized for their contributions.

Ron and Fay exemplify the qualities of excellent sailors and deck hands, and their ongoing efforts to enhance the club experience for all members are greatly appreciated by the entire community.
