Clubs, organizations seek scholarship applicants

Canyon Lake Woman’s Club

The Canyon Lake Woman’s Club is currently accepting applications for its annual scholarship program, designed to support local students in achieving their educational goals. With a Sunday deadline, the program is open to full-time residents of Canyon Lake who have attained a minimum GPA of 3.5, encompassing both graduating high school seniors and continuing college students.

This scholarship initiative is part of the Woman’s Club’s commitment to contributing to the educational success of the community’s youth, offering financial assistance to ease the costs associated with higher education. Eligibility requires applicants to have resided in Canyon Lake for at least six months before applying.

Debra Sacks, the scholarship chairperson, encourages eligible students to seize this opportunity. The application process involves submitting two letters of reference, the most recent transcripts, and proof of college enrollment for continuing students or SAT scores for high school seniors. Additionally, applicants are asked to include a personal letter addressing any hardships that could affect their educational journey.

Following the review of applications, selected candidates will be contacted for a personal or telephone interview with the Woman’s Club Scholarship Committee, scheduled during the week of April 22-26, with all interviews taking place after 3:00 p.m.

Students interested in applying for the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club scholarship or seeking further details are advised to visit the club’s official website or reach out to Debra Sacks directly at debrajsacks@gmail.com. Canyon Lake 9er’s Golf Club

The Canyon Lake 9er’s Golf Club has added an additional scholarship to its annual student-athlete scholarship it has been issuing for years. In addition to that scholarship, the club is going to give a new Trade/Vocational Scholarship and is encouraging Canyon Lake students to apply.

Both scholarships are set to be awarded this May. Established to recognize and support high-achieving student athletes and trade/vocational students who excel in academics, athletics, vocation and community involvement, these scholarships offer a unique opportunity for Canyon Lake’s youth.

Eligibility for the scholarship requires applicants to be Canyon Lake residents, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5, and demonstrate significant participation in school sports and community service activities.

Thanks to contributions from the local golf community and Canyon Lake businesses, the 9er’s Golf Club has successfully raised over $60,000 for scholarships since 2017, providing vital support to the community’s scholar-athletes.

Students interested in applying can pick up an application form from the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop. The application process involves completing a “Brag Sheet,” writing an essay, and submitting recommendation letters from both a teacher and a coach. Select applicants may be invited to interview with the Scholarship Committee as part of the selection process.

The deadline for applications is April 28, with submissions accepted at the Golf Pro Shop or directly to Kathy Sanchez. For more information or to ask questions, students can reach out to Kathy at 951-764-3987 or via email at tochattykathi@yahoo.com.

Scholarship recipients, along with their families, will be informed about the details of the award presentation following the selection process.

City of Canyon Lake

The City of Canyon Lake is calling on high school seniors who are city residents to demonstrate their writing prowess and compete for a $1,500 scholarship through an essay contest. This contest, with a Thursday deadline, aims to support the educational goals of local students while engaging them in meaningful discussions about community involvement and leadership.

The 2024 Essay Contest invites submissions on one of two thought-provoking topics: “How Does Youth Volunteering Make the Canyon Lake Community Stronger?” or “How Youth Can be Community Leaders?” Participants are tasked with crafting an original and previously unpublished essay of 500-750 words, in either PDF or Word format, by the deadline of Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

Contest eligibility extends to high school seniors residing in Canyon Lake who wish to articulate the impact of youth volunteerism or the potential for young individuals to lead within their community.

Alongside their essay, contestants are asked to submit a résumé that outlines their job and volunteer experiences, as well as extracurricular activities, providing a comprehensive look at their community engagement.

The winner of the contest will be recognized and awarded the scholarship at the City Council meeting on May 8. This presents an excellent opportunity for students to contribute to their community’s narrative while securing financial assistance for their post-secondary education.

Interested students should forward their essays and resumes to City Clerk, Sheryl Garcia, at SGarcia@canyonlakeca.gov. For additional details or inquiries, Sheryl can be contacted at 951-244-2955. Further information is also available on the city’s website at canyonlakeca.gov, or by visiting the city offices in the Canyon Lake Town Center.

The City of Canyon Lake eagerly anticipates the insightful essays from its young residents, viewing this contest as a platform for fostering civic engagement and leadership among the youth, and nurturing the next generation of community leaders.
