“Over the years, my kids started taking lessons at the barn, and we kept several horses there,” Johncee Cochran, a longtime member of the equestrian community, said. “Luis is extremely knowledgeable, and a wonderful and kind person. I think the world of him.”

Luis’ approach to management prioritized creating an environment where responsibility, friendship, and life lessons thrived alongside equestrian skills. His balanced attention to the needs of both humans and animals set a high standard for care and respect, making the Equestrian Center a cornerstone of the Canyon Lake community.

Reflecting on Luis’ role as a mentor and guardian, community member Shannon Hunt recalled her childhood experiences at “The Barn.”

“Luis is a very special person to me,” she said. “The Barn was my safe space growing up… it wasn’t just his home, but it was ours, too, and he always made it feel that way.”

Luis’ retirement marks the end of an era for the Canyon Lake POA Equestrian Center. As he steps away, he leaves behind a community that has flourished under his guidance. His contributions will be remembered not only in the memories of those who knew him, but also in the enduring spirit of the center.

The community bids farewell to Luis with heartfelt thanks for his years of dedication. His legacy of kindness, leadership, and commitment to the equestrian, and wider Canyon Lake, community will continue to inspire for generations to come.
