Canyon Lake’s Lucky Duck Derby makes a splash

The Canyon Lake Family Matters Club successfully held its 4th Annual Lucky Duck Derby at the Canyon Lake Lodge Pool Sunday, with hundreds of rubber duckies in the water and a few club officials and sponsors in attendance. The event was live-streamed across social media platforms, with physical attendance limited to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.

Jeannie Hoonnirun, the club president, expressed a wish for broader community participation.

“Since the pool is not yet open to the public we were given special permission to have club members and sponsors in the pool area,” Jeannie said. “We wish we could have had the entire community watch the duckies make their way across the pool.”

Nonetheless, the event’s live stream allowed wider community engagement, with Club Founder Shawna Bowen emphasizing the club’s gratitude for the community’s continued support.

“We as a club want to thank everyone for the support shown to Family Matters,” Shawna said. “The support helps us continue in our philanthropy efforts here in Canyon Lake.”

The derby winners included Shana Travers in 1st place, followed by Brian and Kathy Wood in 2nd, and Dawn Rankins’ duck clinching 3rd place. Fran Tibbet’s ducks incredibly secured both 4th and 5th places.

The event wasn’t just about racing ducks; it was also an opportunity for the community to come together and support the Family Matters Club’s philanthropic missions.

“It was so much fun watching all the lucky ducks make their way across the pool,” Vice President Dawn Rankins said. “I’m always amazed by the support shown, not only to Family Matters, but all the clubs by this wonderful community we live in and call home. The Lucky Duck Derby is just another example of that.”

Special thanks were extended to the event’s sponsors, including Sandy Geer with Farmers Insurance, Dawna Thibedeau, Outlaws Armory, Six Flags, Bark Box, GoFloats, and 4 Imprint, for their generous contributions to the prizes and the event’s success.
