CL Quilters give US Navy veteran Patriotic Quilt

Canyon Laker Warren Waterworth received an honorary patriotic quilt from the Quilters of Canyon Lake last week at a ceremony at the Canyon Lake Senior Center. Family and friends gathered as the quilt was presented for Warren’s service to the country from 1952-1956.

Warren served in the United States Navy for four years. After a year in boot camp along with special training in San Diego, Warren was sent to a Kami Seya, a little village in Japan. The village is just outside of Yokohama where he spent two years in communications. Warren then spent the rest of his service time at Imperial Beach, south of San Diego.

“We were all very touched, and l would like to give a huge thank you to the quilting club and a special shout out to Ronda McCord for honoring my father,” Carolyn Van Vleet said. “It was a special day.”

The event concluded with a cake and coffee service provided by the Quilters of Canyon Lake in honor of Warren. Family and friends gathered together to celebrate Warren and his commendable service to the country.

The Quilters of Canyon Lake receive nominations from Canyon Lake residents to receive a handmade quilt to honor those who have served or are serving the country.
