Pickleball Club looks back on busy December

Pickleball Club Tournament

The Christmas Season was a busy time for everyone, and the Canyon Lake Pickleball Club was no exception. The club hosted a team challenge tournament with 48 club members participating on four separate teams.

The play was five matches for every team member and their score was added to the team total. Players competed against each other of similar skill levels from beginners to advanced and the winning team received gifts provided by the club.

Several of the individual matches were very close and could have gone either way. This drew the attention of the many players and community members that came out to watch the high level of competition at its best.

The winning team scoring the most points overall for the day was composed of Sue Muscarella, Julie Wesseln, Jamie Medford, Tom Nathan, Marilyn Stovall, Steve Libring, Farzad Adib, Ellie Weidner, John Sappington, Denise Sappington, Club President Mike Patton and Kimberly Keigwin.

Pickleball Club Christmas Party

The  Pickleball Club hosted its Christmas Dinner at the Canyon Lake Golf Country Club. Seventy-two club members attended, and fun was the theme of the evening. There was a DJ playing all the great hits to listen to, lots of dancing, and a wonderful Italian Buffet was served.

At the end of the night, prizes donated by Pickleball Club Pro Bobby Kielty were raffled off. Julie Wesseln and Scott Brunoehler were the top prize winners for the new pickleball paddle and new pickleball bag. Ten other lucky winners took home the fabulous centerpieces hand crafted by Val Gambina. Overall, a very fun evening getting to socialize off the courts. Julie Doherty made the arrangements for the party with the Canyon Lake POA staff.

Canyon Lake’s Lucille Blood celebrated her 102nd birthday this month. She is an active member of the Canyon Lake Pickleball Club, where she participates in the club’s events.

Pickleball Member Turns 102

That’s right…Lucille Blood is currently the oldest pickleball club member in Canyon Lake and this month celebrated her 102nd birthday, well ahead of Doris Davis, John Jennings and Ellie Clow who all are just 97 to 90 years old. Family and friends gathered to honor this amazing woman who took time out of her busy schedule to pose for the camera.

Pickleball Club Social Potluck

Despite the cooler temperatures, the club hosted its monthly pickleball and potluck at the courts at Eastport.

This event is every 3rd Thursday, and the food always draws a good-size crowd. Pickleball is a very social game and players pair up with friends and others they may not get opportunities to play much with and renew friendships in a very fun way.

Free Pickleball Lessons

The club will be providing all community members free lessons next month to get the community introduced to pickleball. Make pickleball your New Year’s Resolution and learn this fun and exciting game that is storming the nation at all age levels.

The first date for the free pickleball lessons will be Jan. 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eastport Pickleball Courts. For more information on the free lessons or anything else about the club and their activities, contact Steve Libring, MembershipDirector, at steve.libring@gmail.com or text/call at (951) 760-3140.
