CL Fire Department honors Firefighters of the Year

The Canyon Lake Fire Department is celebrating the exceptional achievements of its team members by announcing the 2023 Firefighter of the Year and the 2023 Reserve Firefighter of the Year.

Fire Captain Tim O’Marra has been selected as the 2023 Firefighter of the Year and James Sanchez has been selected as the 2023 Reserve Firefighter of the Year by their peers.

Recognized for his numerous accomplishments over the past year, Tim is praised for his craftsmanship skills, which have saved the department thousands of dollars, Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse said.

Tim has notably renovated the department’s medical supply room, exceeding expectations with the quality of his work. Additionally, his commitment to training is evident as he consistently ensures his crew achieves the highest training hours each month. Tim also played a crucial role in organizing the successful Canyon Lake Firefighters Association golf cart show.

Reserve firefighter James, one of the department’s “originals” since its opening day, is recognized for his remarkable progress and dedication throughout the year, Jeff said. His consistent volunteering for city and department events showcases his reliability and strong work ethic.

Currently enrolled in paramedic school, James’ pursuit of professional advancement has been particularly commendable and influential in his peers’ decision to honor him.

“The department acknowledges the outstanding commitment and contributions of both Tim and James, who have played a significant role in the department’s growth this year,” Jeff said. “We are grateful to have them as a part of the Canyon Lake team. As we eagerly anticipate the upcoming year, we are excited to see the positive impact they will have on the department.”
