The Ugly Sweater Poker Run raises $14,301 Saturday

The 15th annual Charity Christmas Ugly Sweater Poker Run Saturday raised $14,301 from entry fees, an opportunity drive, a silent auction, and a live auction. There were five stops at the Poker Run and at each stop there was entertainment, food and other ways each stop raised money for the charity.

The final stop ended at the Canyon Lake Lodge and the golf carts pulled up to hear Isolate, a band of local young teens. Isolate volunteered its time and sound system to give back to the event and the community. The young group played hits on the new Canyon Lake Lodge stage. During one of the band’s breaks, organizer Josh Steeber announced the winners of the Poker Run. He thanked all who participated for the funds raised at the event.

The first stop started on Pretty Doe Drive. Included in the stop was a D.J., a biscuit and gravy breakfast, a champagne wall, and games along with photo opportunities with the Canyon Lake Family Matters Club. This year the Poker Run was focused on children in Canyon Lake and the surrounding Riverside County area.

Josh has also become very involved with Michelle’s Place in Temecula, which supports cancer awareness. He stated that the funds raised at the Poker Run this year will help kids who are suffering, be it with cancer, different forms of abuse, court system issues or struggling families.

The foundations involved this year are Brave Gowns, Michelle’s Place, Family Matters Club, Senior Project at Santa Rosa, and Christmas (helping struggling families with dinner, gifts, trees, etc.)

“Thank you everyone in the community who attended and all the hosts for exceeding the expectations of the 15th Annual Charity Christmas Ugly Sweater Poker Run,” Josh said. “Merry Christmas everyone and looking forward to next year.”
