Yacht Club holds Inaugural Commodore’s Ball

The Canyon Lake Yacht Club’s First Annual Inaugural Commodore’s Ball took place at the Holiday Bay room last week and 82 guests entered the red carpet all dressed up for the night’s glamorous affair. The event started with all who entered getting a picture on the red carpet before they headed into the check-in line.

The guests were greeted by the beautiful music duo of Skip Johnson and vocalist Candice Rans who sang songs that the crowd enjoyed while mingling and looking over the silent auction items. Commodore Ron Wilbur provided a welcome and prayer as the high-end plated dinner was served to the guests.

The crowd enjoyed the music that continued to play. Sax, guitar and vocals by the duo were a delightful background to the dinner-time service.

Later, Ron welcomed the crowd, gave a recap of what the year had entailed and spoke of excitement for the coming year.

“You are among the fortunate ones who will be able to say in years to come, ‘I was at the first-ever Commodore’s Ball and what a night it was,” he said. “This year we had 44 events on our club calendar, six of which were signature events, meaning these are events that are recognized in Canyon Lake as being significant to our community.”

Ron then announced that the elections will be coming for the upcoming year and thanked all the current board members who had made the last year so successful, including the members who gave of their time and provided boats for the cruises to members who did not have their own boats.

Aprile DeAnne Mckinnon was the M.C. of the evening and led the Commodore and his wife out to the dance floor to open the night’s dancing. Ron shared that it was actually his and his wife Faye Wilbur’s 44th wedding anniversary that night. He thanked his wife for the unwavering support that she gave throughout the years, and especially in the last year as he was the club’s Commodore.

With close to 400 members now in the Yacht Club, Ron has worked tirelessly to attain those numbers along with the board and membership.

The night continued with the band Code 415 playing dance music as the guests danced the night away.

“Being how this was the first-ever Gala for the Yacht Club, we were so impressed to see how many attendees we had enjoying themselves as they danced the night away, up until the very last song,” Gina-Lee Allen, the chair of the event, said. “The silent auction was a huge success. The community came together for the donations. We brought in $1,700 that will go back to the club for next year’s event.”

Ron thanked all of the committee members for making the event happen.

“It was an honor to contribute to the Commodore’s Ball committee, orchestrating a night of splendor under the stars to celebrate the exceptional Ron Wilbur,” committee member Cindy Silk said.

“I could have never been successful without my team of women on this small committee,” Gina-Lee said. “The night was as beautiful as it was imagined to be.”
