Golden Anniversary adventure

Michael and Susan Rossel have been residents of Canyon Lake since 1975. It is only natural that the couple would take along The Friday Flyer to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in South Africa where they embarked on a 14-day multi-city adventure with Globus Tours.

Their journey commenced with a four-night stay in Cape Town, complete with a city tour, a scenic bus tour to Cape Point and Cape Horn, and a half-day wine tasting tour in Stellenbosch.

They then took a quick flight to Kruger National Park, where they and 17 other travelers resided at the Makalaki Private Game Reserve. There, they relished daily game drives, excellent accommodations, and delicious meals. A subsequent brief flight led them to Johannesburg, where they spent two nights before heading to Victoria Falls.

Being in the dry season, Michael and Susan had the privilege of seeing the falls in all their natural splendor, without being obscured by a cloud of mist. Their adventure culminated in Botswana, where they stayed in Chobe National Park at the Elephant Valley Lodge, known for its estimated 60,000 elephants. Here, they celebrated their anniversary with a river cruise and an evening of entertainment at an outdoor dinner with their new-found friends.

Remarkably, the local wildlife seemed unperturbed by the numerous jeeps filled with curious eyes and cameras snapping away. Lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, elephants, hippos, water buffalo, wildebeests, impalas, crocodiles, baboons, and various bird species all made their presence felt. It was a truly unforgettable vacation and a fantastic way to commemorate their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
