Canyon Lake favorite to open Nov. 4 concert

Makayla Phillips, well-known to Canyon Lake music fans, will once again take a Canyon Lake stage on Nov. 4 to open for The Fabulous Thunderbirds Concerts at the Lodge Series at the Canyon Lake Lodge.

Makayla gained international fame after appearing on American Idol and America’s Got Talent a few years ago. She is now embarking on the next phase of her career with an explosive showcase of her songwriting expertise and vocal mastery.

The 21-year-old Temecula resident, who used to live just outside of Canyon Lake, unveiled her debut single, “Renegade Jane,” shortly after her American Idol performances. This anthem exudes a potent message of independence and empowerment.

With Makayla’s audacious departure from her reality TV performances, the world is now introduced to Makayla Phillips in her authentic voice and on her own terms, Concerts at the Lodge producer Doug Schultz said.

Makayla will take the Canyon Lake Lodge stage as the opening act for The Fabulous Thunderbirds on Nov. 4 in the Holiday Bay Room at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Canyon Lake POA Member Services, the CLPOA website and POA Facebook page. VIP Reserved tickets are available for $79.00 and general admission for $59.00.

Makayla is a television music competition star. She was awarded the Golden Buzzer by Heidi Klum on America’s Got Talent in 2018 and was a Top 11 finalist for American Idol in 2020 and competed again in Idol the following year.

Some of her other accomplishments include winning Temecula Idol two years in a row, winning Best Youth Cover twice at the Temecula Valley Music Awards and earning a Hollywood Launch scholarship.

Makayla has performed several times in Canyon Lake. Her latest Canyon Lake performance was during the pandemic when she and The Kenny Marquez Band performed in a Rock the Boat concert. She took the Holiday Harbor stage in September 2020, but faced the water in one of the most unique Canyon Lake POA concerts ever. The audience was spaced out in the water while the performers took the stage.

She previously performed at the Missing Persons concert in 2019. Her first Canyon Lake appearance was at the Berlin concert held at the Lodge in November 2018, where she captivated an audience that gave her a resounding standing ovation. She and fellow America’s Got Talent singer Codi Lee performed at the 2018 Canyon Lake Tree Lighting. Codi, from Lake Elsinore, won the America’s Got Talent competition.
