Karen Snider has been named the new branch manager of the Canyon Lake Library. Karen brings to the job five years experience within the Riverside County Library System, plus an additional 10 years of librarian and museum-ship prior to coming to Riverside County.

“I hope to work with community partners to bring new STEM programming for children and teens that will enrich and excite them to think about science, technology, engineering and math in a fun and exciting way, which can enhance their future learning and career paths,” Karen said. “When building new programs, I would like to take into consideration what I learn about the different needs of the community. This can be anything from adult ESL classes, to bringing the RCLS literacy van for literacy classes for all ages.”

Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, as well as a Masters in Library and Information Science. With a reading disability at an early age, Karen understands the importance of literacy, and the invaluable part libraries play within their communities.

Besides her love of reading, history, and libraries, Karen said she is inspired daily by her family and the community in which she works and lives.

“Although we have a small library at Canyon Lake, I believe that with community partners and our wonderful patrons, we can make a big difference,” Karen said.
