Community Theatre to hold auditions for Odd Couple

Open auditions are being held for the Canyon Lake Community Theatre’s The Odd Couple next week, with the revised lead roles being females.

Neil Simon’s revision of his hugely successful play, The Odd Couple, sees the lead characters turned into Olive Madison and Florence Unger.

The show will be presented on Nov. 5 at the Colony Homeowners Association located in Murrieta.

The auditions will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Annex Building located at East Port. For those interested in auditioning, contact CoCo Morrison at (951) 204-7777.

The play revolves around the leads Olive and Florence. Olive and her group of girlfriends are enjoying a night of Trivial Pursuit when Florence arrives fresh from being dumped by her husband.

Olive is fearful of Florence’s mental state and invites her to be her roommate.

Olive and Florence have very different personalities, which eventually tests their friendship. Olive eventually organizes a double date for her and Florence with the Costazuela brothers, who have just moved into the same apartment complex. Olive’s and Florence’s differences come to a head and hilarious sparks fly.

The female roles are all for those ages 30-45ish. They are Sylvie (a sarcastic compulsive smoker), Renee (rough around the edges and temperamental) and Vera (intelligent, but a little innocent).

There are two male roles. They are the two brothers, Manolo and Jesus Costazuela, 30-45ish years old, who speak some broken English.
