Little Mermaid Junior at Indian Beach next weekend

The Canyon Lake Community Theatre’s annual youth summer production is back after a three-year pandemic-induced hiatus. The youth, ages 5-17, are presenting the Disney production of The Little Mermaid Junior on July 28 and July 29 at the Indian Beach Amphitheatre. Tickets are on sale.

The show is based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film by Disney. This fishy fable includes music by the eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright. Fun songs including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World” will be sung by the young Canyon Lake cast at the show.

A talented and dedicated young cast has been working tirelessly all summer to bring this timeless classic to life, community theatre organizers said. Their passion and commitment to their craft are evident. This an excellent opportunity to support the local young talent of Canyon Lake.

The performances will take place at Indian Beach on the evenings of July 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. The Indian Beach Amphitheater will be transformed into a magical setting for this enchanting production.

The story revolves around Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton, who yearns to pursue a life with the human Prince Eric in the world above. In a desperate bid to make her dreams come true, Ariel strikes a bargain with the nefarious sea witch Ursula, in which she trades her tail for a pair of legs.

Things are not as they seem, and Ariel soon realizes she needs the help of her colorful friends: Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab, to restore order under the sea.
