Car Club’s monthly show draws 26 classic cars

Canyon Lake residents and car enthusiasts gathered in impressive numbers as 26 cars participated in the July Canyon Lake Car Club Cars, Coffee and Donuts event at Sierra Park Saturday.

The occasion drew the couple dozen cars as well as a crowd of passionate individuals to the park for the club event. The monthly show provides a platform for car enthusiasts to showcase their prized possessions, exchange knowledge, and talk about cars. With an impressive turnout and a wide variety of cars on display, the event has been growing month to month.

Each month a Car of the Month is chosen as part of the event. Among the assortment of remarkable vehicles, one stood out as the clear winner, Perry Beggs, the club president, said. Leo Biller’s Chevy Corvette caught the attention of the attendees and earned him the July Car of the Month award.

Leo said his Corvette is a 1994 ZR1, which Chevrolet had only 424 made. His is one of just seven that were made in the Black Rose color. In 1994, this car outran the Porsches, Ferrari’s, Lambos, etc., he said. That was due to a hand-built aluminum engine with dual overhead cams.

The Corvette was advertised with 405 horsepower. Leo’s car has a performance chip and cold air ram induction for an increase of 55 horsepower.

“I bought the car from the original owner,” Leo said. “It now has only 27,000 miles.”

The next installment of Cars, Coffee and Donuts will take place at Sierra Park on Aug. 11, the second Saturday of the month, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The monthly event always includes a delightful morning filled with beautiful automobiles, freshly-brewed coffee, and a vibrant atmosphere of passionate car enthusiasts.

“Get there early to experience more cars,” Perry said. “Some of the car enthusiasts exit early.”
