Yacht Club adds 24 new members in one day

Canyon Lake Fiesta Hopper on Saturday was a milestone day for membership in the Canyon Lake Yacht Club as the club picked up 24 new members.

The Yacht Club had a booth at the Canyon Lake Lodge on Saturday as part of the Fiesta Hopper celebration over the weekend. The booth was soon swarmed with Canyon Lakers wanting more information about the club’s activities.

“Many booth visitors remarked that with 34 events planned for this year, the Yacht Club looked like the most fun way to make friends, eat food, and party on the water,” Commodore Ron Wilbur said.

“With the influx of new families here in Canyon Lake, we felt like we could provide a great environment for them to meet people, make new friends, and get involved with a non-profit club that serves our community and our members.”

The Yacht Club’s year has included the Stewardship Dinner that celebrated the efforts of many club members who have made a difference over the years, the Opening Day of Boating Season/Blessing of the Boats that filled the marina cove with decorated boats for a celebration followed by the ceremonial cannon blast from the Shoreline Yacht Club of Long Beach, the Clinic “Get Your Boat Ready for Boating Season,” several cruises and the Yacht Club’s semi-annual lake cleanup event.

Tomorrow is the club’s first-ever clinic, which will teach newbies how to drive a boat. The clinic launches the Yacht Club’s new Auxiliary Fleet for people ages 12-18.

“We’re excited about these new members who have just joined the Yacht Club,” Ron said. “We’re looking forward to helping them feel like this is their club, too. We have 22 events still on the calendar for the year. We have so much fun planned it’s obvious why the Yacht Club is known as ‘The Best Party on the Water’.”
