In Memoriam: Cyril “Cy” M. Peterson

Cyril “Cy” M. Peterson came down with pneumonia on May 2 and on May 9 he went to be with our Heavenly Father. Cy was born on March 31, 1931 in Carrington, North Dakota.

He became a pharmacist after his service in the Navy. In 1960, he moved his family to California and opened the first of six drug stores in Huntington Beach on the corner of Main and the Pacific Coast Highway, now known as the famous “Jack’s Surf Shop.”

Cyril “Cy” M. Peterson

Cy originally bought property in Canyon Lake in 1969 so his family could use the amenities there, especially the water skiing. He and his wife Ora loved the Canyon Lake lifestyle and were full-time residents for over 35 years.

Cy was active in the Canyon Lake Car Club, participated in the Fiesta Days Parade, was a two-time boat winner in the Christmas Boat Parade, he volunteered every Thursday at his church pantry and his favorite Canyon Lake activity was working on the golf course with the Tuesday Work Group gang for 23 years.

“He never let grass grow under his feet.” He was always busy and a “Jack of all Trades.” Cy lived a very full life. He will be dearly missed by me, his daughter Janelle Liem, his son-in-law Jerry Liem, his son Dale Peterson, his granddaughter Michelle Kalustian, her husband Jacob, great-grandchildren Logan, Liam, twins Evie and Ora, and granddaughter Danielle Peterson and great-grandson William. Cy was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Peterson.

Any donations in lieu of flowers can be made in Cy’s honor to the Tuesday Work Group, 22237 Whirlaway Court, Canyon Lake, CA 92857.

The family is planning for a dual service for both Cy and Ora at the Riverside National Cemetery. Ora’s ashes have been held since she passed away on Jan. 15, 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
