Chamber to hold Women in Business networking event at Canyon Cowboy

Canyon Lake women in business are being invited to a Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce networking event on Thursday.

The event which is designed for business women to connect, network, and make friends will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Canyon Cowboy in the Canyon Lake Town Center. Registration includes one drink and light appetizers and costs $20 for Chamber members and $25 for non members.  To register, go to the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce website, www.canyonlakechamber.org or call the Chamber at 951-244-6124 for more information.

No Cars, Coffee and Donuts this month

The monthly Canyon Lake Car Club Cars, Coffee and Donuts has been canceled for the month May and will resume in June. With so many car club members working at the Lambs Fellowship Car Show tomorrow when the monthly event was to occur, club leaders canceled the May show at Sierra Park.

People living alone invited to luncheon tomorrow at Canyon Lake Community Church

Those living alone are invited to a no-cost Fiesta luncheon tomorrow (Saturday) at noon at the Canyon Lake Community Church. Those attending are asked to bring a can of food that will be donated to the local Helping Hands charity.

Priscilla Circle is one of five circles at Canyon Lake Community Church. The main ministry of this group is PLAN, outreach to People Living Alone Now. Three times a year, Priscilla ladies plan and provide a free luncheon for about 100 people, who may or may not be members of the church. Chairperson Lynda Ofstad said all are welcome to attend the luncheon. There is always a theme, beautiful decorations, great food, pleasant conversation, music, and a testimony or two, she said.

“We invite everyone in the community who lives alone and would enjoy warm fellowship to join us,” Lynda said. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon starts at noon in the Family Activities Building C. Those interested in attending can call 951-244-7866 for more information and to RSVP.

Chronic Illness Support Group has a new meeting location in Canyon Lake Town Center

The next meeting of the Chronic Illness Support Group on June 5 at 6:00 p.m. will be at a new location. The meeting place is being moved to the CPR building in the Canyon Lake Town Center. Women’s Golf Club President Cup Tourney begins Tuesday

The Canyon Lake Women’s Golf Club is signing up golfers for its two-day President Cup Tournament that will take place on Tuesday and May 23.

The annual tournament is open to all members of the club and is net-game format. The sign-up sheet is in the Canyon Lake Golf Pro Shop. The fee, which does not include green fees, is $45 and includes awards and a luncheon at the conclusion of the final day of the tournament. Call Ina Pickard at 951-244-3062 for information.

Santana tribute band tickets on sale for July concert

The Canyon Lake Guild sold out the Tom Petty Tribute Concert and expects the same with the Smooth Sounds of Santana on July 22, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at brownpapertickets.com or General Admission tickets can be purchased at the Canyon Lake POA office.

Canyon Cash bonus cash must be spent this month

The Shop Local Canyon Cash E-Gift Card program brought in more than $45,000 to local Canyon Lake businesses. The program, sponsored by the City of Canyon Lake and managed by the Canyon Lake Chamber, was designed to encourage patrons to shop local by awarding bonus “Canyon Cash” to those who purchased an e-gift card. Both the e-gift card and the bonus cash are only redeemable at Canyon Lake participating businesses.

The bonus “Canyon Cash” must be used by May 31. The separate e-gift card, however, does not expire. The funds for the bonus cash were taken from a portion of the pandemic money given to the city. The bonus cash funds have been depleted and are no longer available for purchase.

Atlanta Rhythm Section takes stage next month

Temecula’s Makayla Phllips will be the opening act for the June 17 Atlanta Rhythm Section Concert being put on by the Canyon Lake POA’s “Concerts at the Lodge” Series.

Makayla, seen on television’s American Idol and America’s Got Talent, lists her birthplace as Canyon Lake. She opened for Love and Theft in 2021 and Berlin in 2018 at Concerts at the Lodge concerts and headlined a concert during the pandemic’s Rock the Boat concerts. She has also performed at a Canyon Lake Christmas Tree Lighting.

“Makayla displays her explosive songwriting mastery and her vocal strength in her debut single, ‘Renegade Jane,” which she recorded less than a month after appearing on American Idol,” Doug Schultz, the Concerts at the Lodge producer, said. “This local talent is sure to warm your hearts and get you excited for the night‘s performance of the Atlanta Rhythm Section.”

Doug said he is excited to have the Atlanta Rhythm Section perform in the Concerts at the Lodge Series.

“I produced a show with this iconic group in the early 2000s in San Diego,” he said. “They have a string of popular hit songs that the Canyon Lake audience will know and absolutely love.”

Santana tribute band tickets on sale for July concert

The Canyon Lake Guild sold out the Tom Petty Tribute Concert and expects the same with the Smooth Sounds of Santana on July 22, at 7:00 p.m. The concert will be held in the Holiday Bay Room at the Lodge. Expect to hear some of Santana‘s biggest hits.

The very talented musicians will capture the true spirit of Santana. The essence of Santana is in the multicultural sound, the tone of the electric guitars, sounds of keyboards along with the Latin percussion that make the sound of Santana so iconic.

Expect to hear Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, Evil Ways, and many more of the favorites of Santana.

Tickets are on sale now at brownpapertickets.com or General Admission tickets can be purchased at the Canyon Lake POA office. The trend has been that these concerts sell out, hence the need to purchase tickets early.

The Smooth Sounds of Santana, a Tribute to the Music of Carlos Santana, is returning after playing to a sold out audience five years ago at the Lodge.

The band played in Canyon Lake on Oct. 2017. The tribute band offers the look, feel and sounds of Santana. The set list will include the most popular Santana hits. Tickets are available for purchase at CanyonLakeGuld.org or at the Canyon Lake POA office.

For those who purchased the canceled Earth, Wind and Fire tickets, they will be honored at the Santana Tribute Concert.

Other Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild concert tickets are also for sale. The PettyBreakers Tribute Band will take the stage on April 1. The band is a tribute band to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Canyon Lake Tribute Concert Season with the Guild also includes: HarborFest Concert, which is free to the Canyon Lake community, featuring Voyager, a Journey Tribute Band on Sept. 23 and Vegas McGraw, a Tim McGraw Tribute artist on Oct. 21.

C.L.E.A.R inviting youth to lifeguard camp

The C.L.E.A.R Foundation in partnership with the California State Parks and Lake Perris are holding a junior lifeguards camp June 19-30 for ages 8-15.

Sponsorships will be available again this year for those who want to attend and need financial assistance to do so.

To qualify for the camp, tryouts were held at the Canyon Lake Lodge Pool on April 29. At the tryouts, swimmers needed to swim 100 yards in under three minutes and tread water for two minutes in order to qualify for the Lake Perris lifeguard program..

Bulky item pick ups can be scheduled online

CR&R, Canyon Lake’s contracted trash pick up company, provides the pick up of bulky items. The pickup of these items is available by scheduling on CR&R’s website, www.crrwasteservices.com, or by calling 800-755-8112.

Items that cannot fit in the curbside automated containers, such as a chair, couch, or other household appliances, are considered “bulky items.” Each residential customer is entitled to call and schedule a bulky item pick-up for no additional charge two times per calendar year, and each call can include up to two items.

Fire Department accepting expired fire extinguishers

The Canyon Lake Fire Department has implemented an out-of-service fire extinguisher program.

Old or expired fire extinguishers can be dropped off at the Canyon Lake Fire Department Station 1 located at 28730 Vacation Drive.

Not only do fire extinguishers have manufacture dates imprinted on them to help determine their expirations, but if they have rust or corrosion, they should be taken to the fire department for disposal.

ABC fire extinguishers are the most common home fire extinguishers. Their life expectancy can range between 10 and 12 years depending on how well the extinguisher has been maintained.

After each use, the extinguisher should be recharged, even if the extinguisher is not empty. This will help to ensure that the extinguisher contains enough pressure and suppressant chemicals to extinguish future fires. Fire extinguishers should be serviced by a trained professional.

This new fire department program is also being implemented to promote the acquisition of fire extinguishers by Canyon Lake residents.

The Canyon Lake Fire Department recommends and encourages residents to have at least two fire extinguishers. Households should have one on each floor of the house as well as one for the garage.

The fire department also said to Immediately replace any fire extinguishers that are deemed out-of-service. Fire extinguishers are great for putting out small fires that have just started, but if a fire is too big and out of control, residents should evacuate the house and call 911.

Center calling all seniors to join in on game days

The Canyon Lake Senior Center is inviting the community’s seniors to a couple of days of interesting and fun games on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hand and Foot, a quick moving card game with the objective to be the first to rid a player‘s cards and for the team to take the most points is played on Monday’s at the Senior Center from noon to 4:00 p.m.

POA seeking help with security camera footage

The Canyon Lake Property Owners Association is asking its members to volunteer to share home security camera footage when a criminal incident occurs near their home.

In partnership with the Riverside County Sheriff‘s Department, this program allows community residents with surveillance systems to voluntarily add themselves to a list that the Riverside County Sheriff‘s Department and the Canyon Lake POA may refer to if a criminal incident occurred nearby.

With the increased popularity of personal surveillance systems, including simple doorbell cameras, for residents and property owners, the use of the footage from these cameras has become useful to law enforcement. As crimes occur near a home with security cameras, owners may not be aware that their system may have captured helpful information that could help solve the crime.

After signing up on the Canyon Lake POA website for this program, when these criminal incidents occur, the Canyon Lake POA and/or law enforcement may contact those on the sign up list near the incident to help solve the crime by requesting to review their video footage their system may have captured. This information or footage may assist in apprehending and prosecuting the criminals involved.

Members would only be contacted by the Canyon Lake POA or law enforcement to request permission to view your camera footage if there is a criminal incident near their home.

“You are not giving the Canyon Lake POA or law enforcement access to your system or footage, but instead agreeing to be contacted if you have a camera that may have been in the vicinity of a criminal incident,” the Canyon Lake POA said. “Your participation in providing any camera footage is strictly voluntary. Information provided to the Canyon Lake POA regarding your camera systems will be for official use only. Your personal information will remain confidential and will not be distributed.’

Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects caught in the act of committing a crime, the Canyon Lake POA said. While many own and operate personal surveillance systems that could aid in solving crimes, law enforcement officials are not always aware of who may have this potentially vital information.

By signing up for this program, residents are added to a list that may be quickly referenced to identify nearby cameras that may have captured criminal activity.
